A man named Tom was competing on the quiz show on Friday, April 3, when he made on excruciatingly awkward slip. Tom was sitting comfortably in second place early in the show, trailing a woman named Kerry and a third contestant named Pat. 

Pat chose the clue that prompted the terrible answer, picking the $400 choice under the “In Life” category. 

“In common law, the age of this, signaling adulthood, is presumed to be 14 in boys and 12 in girls,” host Alex Trebek read.

Instead of giving the correct answer of “puberty,” Tom took the clue in a weird and uncomfortable direction. He buzzed in quickly and answered, “What is the age of consent?”
