The three-time Oscar nominated actor will star alongside Megan Fox and Tyler Perry for the Michael Bay-produced sequel

The cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 has just gained an unlikely new member: Oscar nominated actress Laura Linney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Linney, who has only entered blockbuster territory once in 1995’s Congo, has joined Megan Fox and Will Arnett, who are both returning from the first film. New cast members include Tyler Perry and Arrow star Stephen Amell.

The full details of Linney’s role have yet to be revealed but production kicked off this week, making her a late addition to the cast.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a surprise hit last year, making $485m worldwide despite a critical kicking. It scored a paltry 21% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The sequel is being directed by David Green, who was behind last year’s family sci-fi adventure Earth to Echo. Michael Bay, who produced the first film, is also returning behind the scenes.

Linney was last in the WikiLeaks drama The Fifth Estate and she’ll next be seen in Mr Holmes opposite Ian McKellen and Genius alongside Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. She’s been nominated for an Oscar three times for performances in You Can Count On Me, Kinsey and The Savages.
