My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga – review
'I would recommend all teenagers to read this book as it is very interesting, it grips you from the beginning, it's a quick read and it is just a wonderful piece of writing'This book made me realise why teenagers would consider committing suicide. At first I just wanted to read a sad book involving teenage romance and death like The Fault In Our Stars and judging by the blurb and the synopsis, it seems really sad. However, when you actually read the book it makes you realise how much these two teenagers have been through and what caused them to feel this way as well as how one unexpected decision can change your life.
My Heart and Other Black Holes follows the story of Aysel, a girl many people are afraid of and therefore they tend to stay away from her, especially since they know that her father murdered Timothy Jackson, a legend who was about to compete for the Olympics. But ever since the murder, Aysel's life became hell and that is the reason why she wants to end it all. So whilst browsing 'Smooth Passages', a website made for those who want to commit suicide, she stumbles upon FrozenRobot whom she plans to commit suicide with. FrozenRobot, aka Roman, is the gorgeous seventeen year old who wants death more than anything due to his guilt. His sister's death is the reason why he would rather commit suicide than carry on with life as he blames himself for her fate.
Aysel and Roman meet and get to know each other better and as April 7th (the day everything will end) gets closer, they grow closer too and a romance starts brewing between them. But is this enough to make them change their minds? You must read the book to find out.
I loved this book, it was just amazing because of the unique topic and in my opinion I think that Jasmine Warga did a great job of portraying two teenagers who want to commit suicide. I also love the fact that this book has a purpose and it isn't just a mere novel about love and death. It actually makes the reader aware of the fact that they don't have any idea of what someone could be going through and that's why it is so important to try and understand and be there for that person and even if that's too much then we should at least be nice to whoever we meet and not judge anyone. Our words can affect people in a way that even we cannot understand.
I would recommend all teenagers to read this book as it is very interesting, it grips you from the beginning, it's a quick read and it is just a wonderful piece of writing.
